As part of our 'Find your Field of Dreams' sponsored swimming lessons, all classes learned about water survival. Some completed this lesson in the school pool and others at HBHS.
The instructors taught them how to get into huddles in the water to keep safe, how to fall safely in to deep water and how life jackets protect us.
Welcome to the Cultural Events blog. This is where we will share what is happening at Kapahaka, Hakahiva plus other cultural events that happen at school.

*Please note that an expression of interest has already been sent home for children interested in Football.
In order to organise the teams can you please state which sport/s they are interested in and provide contact details below. This is so we can get an indication of interested players in preparation for possible trials.
We also require parents to manage/coach teams for each sport at games, and at lunchtimes to ensure they can play each week. Please indicate if you can help with this.
Please complete the form below and return to the school office.
Yours sincerely

Hamilton East School Football 2018
Hamilton East School Football 2018
This year, our school is joining the Junior Football programme run by WAIBOP Football. This skills-based programme is run locally by Claudelands Rovers football club. We can register our students to play together within a team with a school name, hosted by Claudelands Rovers. At this stage, we are asking families to give us an expression of interest on the form below by Friday 16th March, and we will make up the teams. Once we have team details, we will ask families to register their child/ren and make payment of fees.
Information:
- Cost is $70 per player for all the junior grades in 2018. Payment is not needed yet, but will need to be made once we have made the teams.
- Games for all junior grades are on Saturday and vary depending on the weekly draw. In each session for ages 5-6, there is a skill centre session and a game, and the venue is mainly at Galloway Park. Players 7 and over may play games at other parks, depending on the weekly draw.
- Uniform Ages 4,5 & 6 are supplied with a uniform by Claudelands Rovers to use for the season as part of their fees. For players 7 and above, uniforms are to be purchased from the club by the player’s family. Details to follow.
- Boots / shin pads: Soccer boots are essential for all players and from ages 7 and up shin pads are required. A limited number of second hand boots and shin pads may be available to borrow for the season - more details to follow.
- Parent involvement: Each team needs a parent manager and a parent coach.
- Age groups: Teams are organised in age groups.
Hamilton East School Football 2018 - Expression of interest.
Please return to your child’s teacher by Friday 16 March
Yes, I would like my child/ren to participate in a school team within Claudelands Rovers this year:

__________________________________________Class____________________ Year level __________
I understand that the fees are $70 per child, and that my child will need football boots and shin pads. I also understand that I will need to buy a uniform from Claudelands Rovers if my child is 7 years old or over.
I am happy to volunteer as a:
- Parent coach

Jump Jam Trials - 2018
Miss Rasmussen is well underway with Jump Jam trials this year.
We are entering two teams into the same competition as last year - Strictly Jump Jam. This means that we need to learn the routine exactly how it is shown on our Jump Jam DVD's.
Jump Jam is a fun, dance and exercise programme that really gets the heart pumping! Check out our 2017 Jump Jam team in the Finals in a previous blog post!
There has been lots of interest from all children in years 3-6. The talent we have at HES is outstanding!
Keep listening to the 10am News - there are more trials this week, with the final teams being announced next week!
