Our Kapa Haka and Haka Hiva performed on Thursday night. We were so proud of you all.

We have a performance at Frankton School.

The performances are from 4.30- 7pm

Both Kapa Haka and Haka Hiva are performing. 

Come along and support our school. 

There will be food, music and shows.

Teaching the Japanese Students about our culture

We learnt two songs with the Japanese students today. 

Some of the photos are of the boys who have been learning the haka with Whaea Tash and Room 11. They showed us what they have learnt.

Performance for Whaea Penny and Whaea Troy

Meet Whaea Penny and Whaea Troy

Some of you may know them from Haka hiva. We sang them the songs we know and then they taught us a new song about colours. Since we listened so carefully we even got to sing some silly songs.

We are learning Utaina to sing it at our end of year prize giving. The kapa haka sing a different part.

Last week we sang against each other in an attempt to lift our performance and to work together as a team. We sang different songs and started at the same time.

Peachgrove perfomance

Did you see the ta moko that the girls wore on their chins? 

We drew ta moko on our chin's for the Mish Mash performance, but we didn't wear them on Tuesday when we welcomed our new teachers. Do you think we should have a 

ta moko when we perform?

Powhiri for our new teachers

We practiced in Room 12 first to warm up our bodies and jog our memory because we haven't sang together for over two weeks! The boys still have their shirts on trying to keep as warm as possible.

We went to the hall to sing as the new teachers came into the hall. 

This is Whaea Char. She shared her mihi with us.

The boys performed the school haka.

Today we are going to welcome two new teachers to our school.

We will try to sing loudly and make them feel welcome by smiling. 

Miss Dee is in Room 8 and Whaea Char in Room 2.

What have you been learning about in your classroom to do with Maaori language week?

Special behind the scene photos!

Since we were performing outside the boys kept their shirts on until the last minute. It was a cold morning.

We had to practice our performance before we were recorded. The girls asked for moko to be drawn on their chin's.

Notice our bare feet? It sure was cold. We all had to warm up after our performance. 

This was our first time singing this song to an audience.

Mish Mash

Today we performed for Mish Mash TV. You should check us out. It will be on channel 30 (freeveiw) on Tuesday the 28th of June. It will be on at 7.30am, 9.30am and again in the afternoon at 4pm.

We performed a song we have only just started learning.

Our practice performance

We are recording our performances so we can see what we need to do to improve. 

We are able to feedback when we have watched ourselves. 

At the moment we are learning to show passion in our performance by lifting our heads high.

 We have been watching performances from other kapa haka groups to inspire and help us lift our own performance.

We are singing a beautiful song about rainbows.

We are watching Whaea Amo's cousins perform.

We are learning to improve our performance

We have been watching some performances that Whaea Amo has of her cousins. We were very impressed by what we saw and even lifted our own practice.
